 William Holt, Jr. - 1926 - 2000

Many significant events happened in the year 1926.  John Baird worked on an invention that later became known as television. Robert Goddard invented the liquid powered rocket that helped man make his journey to the moon.  On January 9th in a small home in the snowy town of Chaplin, Kentucky, a woman gave birth to a son and called him William, Jr. He became the son of Will and Clara Holt.  He attended the local school on Ashes Creek Road until he made his way to Chaplin High School.  There he graduated in 1944 and was inducted into World War II where he served in the European theater and was honorably discharged in 1946.

After his return from the service, he met Alma Joyce Wright and they were married in 1949.
He started a career as a highway engineer and worked for the State of Kentucky for 35 years. Together they had a daughter, Vicki Ann and a son, Gary William.  Around that time, they left the Louisville area and moved back to Chaplin.  Having been married 28 years Alma Joyce fell victim to circumstances caused by cancer.

William, Jr. then met Aileen Shouse Dadisman who had lost her husband in a bout with cancer and they were married in 1977.  They lived at their Chaplin residence until Dad became ill with cancer and died on March 4, 2000.

Our Dad was a man of many names.  Some called him Bill, some Honey, some Sprout, some Little Granddaddy  and some William.  He had many names because he represented many things to many people.  He was a husband, a father, a friend, a brother, a grand dad,  a step father and most of all  a Christian.  He was instrumental in seeing that his Church had a steeple and chimes that play even today. Dad was a person that always had a smile and got along well with everyone.  He enjoyed his farms, cattle and never let a challenge get the best of him.  He was a true University of Kentucky fan and enjoyed going to and watching the games.  He is truly one that has made the world a better place merely by his presence.  We pay tribute to him with this page knowing that there is no way we can encompass all the smiles and love that he offered us.  As you view this page, celebrate the idea that we, as his family, have been very blessed and wish his legacy to continue through us.
